First Impressions

Hello everyone! I have had a busy three days full of lots of learning and I have pictures that I will post once I have internet access on my own computer. The abbreviated version is Saturday I got to go to a children's program though a program called ALARM. It focuses on training African leaders. Jessica and Nelson (the people hosting me this week) both work for ALARM. Sunday I was able to go to church with everyone, and today I am visiting the ALARM office.

So far the biggest thing I have learned is that I am weird. It's rather humerus going through basic activities (such as eating or introducing myself) and being able to make a complete fool of myself.  My accent is very strong (so I was told), so people have a hard time understanding me. Everyone has been so welcoming and forgiving of my naivety.

I am also trying to learn the polite way to be a guest. Everyone here is an incredible host and pays attention to visitors. I do not need to be standing for more than 5 seconds until someone brings me a chair and a bottle of water. I am a bit uncomfortable being waited on and have offered to help but I get really strange looks when I ask to do something. I was finally allowed to help clean up lunch today, I got to carry dishes half way before someone took them out of my hands.

I have loved every new experience and will post pictures when I can. Thanks for the comments!

  3. Keep the updates coming Katie, it's appreciated. I'm sure it won't be long and you will no longer be a guest - so take advantage of it. BTW - that's exactly how Ann treats me.
